Handmade Glass Seed Bead & Cowrie Shell Necklace – Colourful Statement Jewellery
The Traveller
Someone spent a lot of time making this.
Hundreds of tiny glass beads run into an elaborate central piece of blue, yellow, orange, turquoise and white, with long beaded fringes ending in cowrie shells.
And then there's the bit we really love: the two sides don't match.
One runs predominantly through blues and greens; the other wanders into yellow and green. Whether that was carefully planned or simply how its maker wanted it that day, we don't know. Either way, symmetry would have made it far less interesting.
This isn't polished, perfect jewellery. The beadwork has age, movement and some wear to it. Look closely and you can see the hand of whoever sat and threaded all those tiny beads in the first place.
We wish we knew who they were.
